A Cased Pair of Flintlock Joseph Manton Duelling Pistols, No. 3880 for 1805. With browned sighted octagonal barrels, with recessed patent breeches each with rectangular platinum lined makers stamp, platinum lined touch-holes, border engraved tangs decorate with foliage, signed border engraved locks, each decorated with a small trophy at the tail and with a starburst behind the pan, cocks decorated en suite, engraved safety catches and steels each with roller bearing on a ramp on the steel springs, the steels engraved, ‘Joseph Manton Patent’ and numbered ‘1620’ and ‘1621’, figured half-stocks with chequered rounded butts and dark-horn fore-end caps, border engraved blued steel mounts comprising butt caps each decorated with a martial trophy, trigger guards en suite and pineapple finials, turned ramrod pipes, silver oval escutcheons engraved with the original owners crest, with horn tipped ramrods: in an associated lined and fitted case including brass-monuted three-way flask covered in red leather (minor scuffs) steel bullet mould and pan brush, the interior of the lid with maker’s label for circa 1805-10, the exterior with circular flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a circular vacant brass escutcheon.
