A Flintlock London Bridge Toll House Pistol

A Flintlock Pistol engraved London Bridge Toll House. With slightly swamped two stage brass barrel, stamped with London proofs and Freemans own barrel smiths mark, the top engraved, ‘London Bridge Toll House No.4’ plain steel tang cut with a sighting groove, curved border engraved lock, signed ‘FREEMAN’ and fitted with a sliding safety catch, full-stocked in walnut, mounted with military style side-plate, long-eared butt cap, and plain trigger guard with foliate finial, horn tipped ramrod with worm.

Gunmaker, ‘at the Flower near the Church in St. Martins Lane’, 1719; at St. Martins Ct., 1726; St. Martins Lane 1735. Died 1736. Maker of fine silver-mounted pistols including breech loaders.
James Son of James Paul, apprenticed to father, 1730; free of Gunmakers Co., 1738. Proof piece & mark 1744. Elected Assistant, 1749; Master 1754. Gunmaker, St. Martins Lane, 1743; Lancaster Ct., Strand, 1749. Died 1756.
