An Attributed 1854 Pattern Wilkinson Sword
A good 1854 Pattern Infantry Officers sword by Wilkinson with steel scabbard.
Regulation brass gothic hilt with VR cypher and shagreen covered grip with only slight loss to the Shagreen. The 1845 type fullered blade is in good condition with nice crisp etching.
The blade is numbered 10488 which indicates a probable date of manufacture of early to mid 1860. The owners initials LFC are also etched onto the blade, the owner is not definitely known but a possible candidate of the period is Colonel Loudon Francis Campbell who was first commissioned in 1859 and went to serve in the British Indian Army with the Madras Native Infantry and served throughout the Third Anglo-Burma War of 1886-87.
