A Superb English Hanger With Silver Encrusted Hilt, circa 1630. With curved single-edged blade, double edged towards the point, cut with two long fullers on each side running almost the entire length of the blade, steel hilt formed of two oval section bars with baluster mouldings, the knuckle-bow with an unusual double turn, and small shell guard at the back of the hilt. The surface is covered with dot and trellis ornament in silver, scrolling cap pommel and stag horn grip are typical features of hangers produced at the Hounslow factory. The silver decoration and curious double-turn on the knuckle-bow indicate that this hanger is of unusually high quality, probably London made.
