A North European Cavalry Backsword, 17th Century. With straight single edged blade cut with a long narrow fuller along the back edge, double edged towards the point, etched with scrolling foliage and a Turks profile bust on both sides, with the Protestant inscription 'Solideo Gloria' (Glory to God alone) and a further inscription on the opposite face, steel hilt comprising down curved quillon with folded terminal, knuckle guard and frontal guard each interrupted by a moulding, ring-guard formed of a pair of steel bars filled with a pierced plate, thumb loop, ovoid pommel, with wire bound grip and two 'turks heads'.
