A Swept-Hilt Rapier, Early 17th Century. With tapering full-length blade of diamond section, rectangular ricasso stamped with the wordsmiths mark of a crowned, ’S’ hilt of slender bars comprising two outer side-rings with decorative inserts joined to down-curved arms, joined with curving bars to the knuckle guard, bifurcated inner-guard rising to join the knuckle guard, decorated with engraving where they join, ovoid pommel decorated with foliate engraving with button, gold wire bound grip with two turks-heads. 


Notes:

There is an old repair to one of the bars (see photographs) the hilt also appears to be have been re-gilded.
