A Fine Flintlock Blunderbuss by W. Turvey, London. With belled octagonal to round barrel, signed ‘W + TURVEY + LONDON’ along the top-flat and stamped with London proofs and Turveys barrels smith  mark, foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved lock with dog-catch safety, full-stocked in walnut with raised apron around the tang, lock and side-plate, engraved brass mounts comprising foliate engraved side-plate and butt-cap, vacant oval escutcheon, foliate engraved trigger guard decorated with a flower on the bow and acanthus leaf finial, turned ramrod pipes and brass tipped ramrod. The blunderbuss of large size overall. In crisp condition.

William Apprentice to Edward Turvey, 1703; free of Gunmakers Co., 1711. Elected Assistant, 1727; Master 1733. Gunmaker nest to Furnivall’s Inn, Holborn. Contractor to Ordnance, 1719; East India Co., 1741. Died 1744. Widow Sara continued business.
