With browned twist sighted barrels each signed in script along the sighting flat, engraved with a line of repeated foliage at the back of the breech and with gold-lined touch-hole, border engraved tangs each decorated with a Britannia shield, drum and foliage, signed border engraved flat bevelled locks each decorated with a starburst behind the gold-lined pan and with a part martial trophy and foliage on the stepped tail, engraved safety-catches also locking the steels, and rollers, lightly figured full stocks each with dark horn fore-end cap and characteristically chequered rounded butt, border engraved blued mounts comprising butt-caps each with foliage on the tang and with a flower-head centred on the retaining screw, trigger-guard with pineapple finial and decorated with a Britannia shield and foliage on the bow, slotted ramrod-pipes, vacant gold escutcheons, original horn-tipped ramrods, and retaining much of their old refinishing: in relined and refitted oak case with some accessories including three-way powder-flask, the body re-covered in brown leather, the interior of the lid with reproduction maker's trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle.

Son of Leonz Egg, gunmaker, Switzerland. Born 1748, baptised Urs Christian. After a short stay in Paris, came to London and worked for John Twigg, 1772. Granted denization in 1791. Gunmaker & Sword Cutler. Became gunmaker to George IV & Duke of York. Renowned for his fine workmanship.
