A Fine 12-Bore Flintlock Over & Under Pistol by D.Egg, Circa 1800. With re-browned octagonal barrels with blade sight, clean bores, top flat engraved in script, "D.Egg. London”, ramrod mounted to the right, stamped with London proofs and Irish registration marks ‘ME-5071’ to the left (Meath) engraved with a geometric pattern at the breech, both locks elaborately engraved and signed ‘D.Egg’ in script (the left lock has been expertly restored) swan-neck cocks fitted with sliding safeties, simple floral and linear engraving to mounts, double triggers, trigger guard and butt cap decorated with Britannia’s shield, one piece stock cut with characteristic chequering. An incredible pistol. 


Durs Egg

Son of Leonz Egg, gunmaker, Switzerland. Born 1748, baptised Urs Christian. After a short stay in Paris, came to London and worked for John Twigg, 1772. Granted denization in 1791. Gunmaker & Sword Cutler. Became gunmaker to George IV & Duke of York. Renowned for his fine workmanship.
