A Silver Mounted Flintlock Sporting Gun by I. Daykin. With octagonal to round sighted barrel, engraved ‘I DAYKIN NOTTINGHAM’ along the top flat, stamped with London proofs and Daykins own barrel smith mark, profusely engraved tang cut with sighting groove, stepped lock re-converted to flintlock, signed on a scroll beneath the pan, half-stocked in walnut (old repair to wrist – it appears to have been chequered over to disguise the repair and a small slither repair to fore-end: see photographs) cast and chased silver side-plate, unusual silver eagle escutcheon, engraved steel butt-plate and trigger guard. With replacement horn tipped ramrod.
