An English Mortuary Sword

An English ‘Mortuary’ Hilted Backsword, 17th Century. With tapering blade double-edged at the point and cut with four narrow fullers at the forte with three running the entire length of the blade, the fullers struck with a series of circles and ‘IN SOLINGEN FECIT’ on both sides, the ‘pattern’ guard chiselled with portrait busts representing Charles I between scrolling foliate borders, the base of the knuckle guard chiselled with a leaf motif, globular pommel with button and chiselled scrolling foliage, turned horn grip.
