An Early Flintlock Holster Pistol by Dolep of London. With two-stage round barrel, stamped with London proofs and what appears to be Doleps own barrel smiths mark, plain steel tang, signed ‘banana’ shaped lock (replacement cock), full-stocked in walnut with raised mouldings around the lock and tang, brass furniture comprising serpentine side-plate, vacant escutcheon, foliate engraved butt cap, simple brass trigger guard, with brass ramrod pipes and later horn tipped ramrod.

The maker is George Edward Dolep, son of the famous Andreas Rheinhold Dolep, maker of fine and ingenious firearms. In 1710 he married Mary, daughter of John Tittensor, gun barrel forger. He is recorded as Gunsmith ‘over against the Plow & Harrow in St. Martin’s Lane’ in 1713, the same year he was made free of the Gunmakers Company. Appointed Gentleman Armourer to George I in 1715. He died in 1717.
