A Small Pocket Pistol
A Flintlock Round Framed Pocket Pistol of Small Size by T. Jones of London. With round turn-off barrel decorated with a band of engraving at the muzzle end, line engraved action decorated with a stand of arms to the left and signed within an oval to the right, fitted above with a sliding safety catch, plain walnut butt with oval white metal escutcheon, stamped below with London proofs.
Thomas 4 Son of Thomas 3 apprenticed to father, 1746; free of Gunmakers Co., 1760. Gunmaker, At the Cross Guns in Cornhill near ye Royal Exchange (trade card of 1760). May have worked earlier at Fenchurch Lane. Continued to use fathers mark, noted on pistol hall-mark 1777.
