A Sleepy Pair of Tap Action Pistols by J & W Pistols. With round turn-off barrels decorated at the muzzles and breech, numbered ‘1’ ‘/‘ ‘2’ and ‘3’ and stamped with London proofs, line engraved box-lock actions, with sliding thumb-piece safety catches, signed ‘J&W Richards’ within an oval to the left and ‘LONDON’ to the right, flat sided walnut butts with silver oval escutcheons engraved with the original owners initials, ’S.S.’. In uncleaned condition.

Joseph & William Gunmakers, 16 Staining Lane, 1808-10. Factory at Birmingham where Joseph carried on alone,1815-30. Some pistols made by partners are marked ’62 Strand, London’.
