A Sleepy 42 Inch Brownbess
With sighted barrel, plain tang, stamped with Government proof and inspection marks, Ordnance rounded lock with Crowned ‘GR’, ordnance stamp and engraved ‘TOWER’ across the tail, full-stocked in walnut (it appears the stock has been split and repaired around the grip, near the front of the lock and at the ramrod channel) brass furniture comprising side-plate, butt cap, unusual cut-down trigger guard, and two turned ramrod pipes. Sling swivels are later replacements. This is an unusual gun, not conforming to any pattern of Bess I am aware of.
