A Rare Self-Priming Brass Barrelled Flintlock Blunderbuss by Waters, Gill & Co. No. 1010, Circa 1785.
With three-stage belled barrel fitted with a Water’s Patent spring bayonet on the underside, engraved iron tang, flat bevelled border engraved bolted lock signed ‘WATERS GILL & CO.’ and with stepped tail and roller, the steel incorporating the self-priming magazine, figured walnut three-quarter stock carved in low relief with a raised apron and shell behind the barrel-tang, engraved iron trigger-guard incorporating the bayonet-release mechanism, scroll engraved brass butt-plate, shaped brass escutcheon, and later horn-tipped ramrod fitted to the left side of the fore-end, private Birmingham proof marks, maker’s mark of John Waters

Waters, Gill & Co.
Name appears on guns of c.177-80. Probably partnership of John Waters of Birmingham (1766-88) and Thomas Gill who started in Birmingham and worked in London, c.1780-1800.
