A Pistol with Possible Waterloo Links.

Possible Waterloo Links. A Flintlock Tap-Action Pistol by Ketland & Co. London. With round turn-off barrels, border engraved box-lock action signed ‘KETLAND & Co’ beneath a wreath to the left and ‘LONDON’ beneath a wreath to the right, stamped with London proofs and ‘6’ at the breech, engraved tap action and fitted with sliding safety catch that also locks the pan, swelling slab sided walnut grip with engraved silver escutcheon bearing the original owners initials, ‘EJY’ and also ‘14TH REG.T FOOT’ on a separate semicircular plate.

Notes:
The 14th Regiment of Foot (later the West Yorkshire Regiment) fought at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 with its 3rd Battalion, part of Colonel Hugh Mitchell’s 4th Brigade, 4th Division, holding the extreme right of the line, near the Nivelles-Hougoumont Road, forming squares against cavalry charges and suffering light casualties before the battalion was disbanded in 1816.

There is a chance this pistol was carried at the battle. With the owners rather unusual initials I think this would benefit further research.
