A Percussion Shot Gun by Purdey
A 10 Bore Percussion Sporting Gun by J. Purdey, No. 926 for 1826. With browned twist three-stage sighted barrel, octagonal breech signed in full along the top-flat and becoming polygonal towards the turned girdle, recessed patent breech with platinum lines and pierced platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tang decorated with a shell on the sighting flat, signed border engraved serial numbered flat lock engraved with scrolling foliage, dolphin hammer en suite, figured half-stock with silver fore-end cap and chequered grip, border engraved steel mounts comprising butt-plate decorated with foliage on the heel tang, and trigger-guard with a symmetrical design of scrolling foliage on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple-shaped finial engraved with a scallop shell, silver escutcheon engraved with owner’s crest, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and brass-mounted ramrod.
