A Joseph Manton & Son D.B. Percussion Shotgun
A Percussion Sporting Gun by Joseph Manton & Son. With a sighted barrels engraved, ‘Joseph Manton & Son Patent 6 HOLLES STREET Cavendish Square LONDON’ (small surface scuff to one side of the barrel) numbered ‘9506’ underneath the barrels and stamped with London proofs, profusely engraved tang cut with a shallow sighting groove, beautifully border engraved locks, both signed ‘Joseph Manton & Son PATENTEES’ decorated with game and shooting scenes and decorated with scrolling foliage throughout, half stocked in walnut cut with chequering at the the wrist and fore-end, engraved re-blued mounts comprising butt plate, numbered trigger guard and ramrod throat pipes, brass tipped ramrod with concealed worm.
9506 – The serial number of a double barrel shotgun made in 1835-37. Particulars are given under the heading for 1837.
