A Cased Pair of Pistol
A Cased Pair of 32-Bore Percussion Duelling or Target Pistols by R. Johnston, London, Circa 1850. With browned octagonal sighted barrels signed; ‘R. Johnston St James Street London’ case hardened breeches with double platinum lines and platinum plugs, foliate engraved, case-hardened tangs incorporating rear site, signed, stepped, bevelled locks profusely engraved with scrolling foliage and fitted with sliding safety catches, figured walnut half-stocks with chequered rounded butts (original collectors numbers painted on the butts ’24’), blued steel trigger guards each with pineapple finial and engraved with scrolling foliage on the bow, vacant hexagonal whit metal escutcheons, horn fore-end caps, brass tipped ramrods: in original lined and fitted oak case with accessories including brass three-way powder flask, with original trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle.
