A Cased 90 Bore Percussion Daw Patent Five Shot Revolver. Patent No. 1506. With blued round sighted barrel signed in full along the top flat, serial numbered case-hardened cylinder numbered from ‘1’ to ‘5’ at the front between the chambers, blued border engraved frame engraved ‘Patent No. 1506’ on one side, border engraved trigger-guard and ovoidal butt-cap, the latter with lanyard ring, linked case-hardened rammer with sprung side-catch, chequered rounded butt with border engraved spur, much original finish (some loss of finish in places): in original lined and fitted oak case with accessories including powder flask, brass bullet mould, the interior with maker’s trade label, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon engraved, ‘H.J.N.’ London proof marks.

There is a hand written note in with the pistol that reads –
“Lieut Henry John Nuthall (56th Regt).
Ensign – 19th Nov 1858
Lieut – 21 Aug 1860
Lieut Nuthall served with the Meerut Volunteer Cavalry in June – July 1857, then appointed local Ensign to the 24th Punjab Infantry Pioneers. He served as an assistant engineer throughout the mutiny; was present at the siege and assault on Delhi, capture of Lucknow, passage of Fyzabad operations. Served as a volunteer with Hodsons Horse at the skirmish near Durriabad. Was twice slightly wounded and his horse also received a sword cut. Mentioned three times in dispatches and granted an Ensignery in the 56th Foot.
Entitled to the mutiny medal with two clasps”.
