A Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol by Waters & Gill, London. With three-stage octagonal to round barrel, belled at the muzzle, stamped with London proofs and Waters barrel smith mark, engraved ‘LONDON’ along the top flat and embellished scrolling foliage towards the breech, signed border engraved lock decorated with sprays of foliage, full-stocked in walnut with raised apron around the tang, brass mounts comprising side-plate, engraved long eared butt cap with grotesque mask, trigger guard decorated with a flow ahead on the bow and acorn finial and turned ramrod pipes, with original brass tipped ramrod with worm.
Name and ‘London’ appears on guns of c.177-80. Probably partnership of John Waters of Birmingham (1766-88) and Thomas Gill who started in Birmingham and worked in London, c.1780-1800.
