An English Harquebusiers Pott. comprising pot with hemispherical skull formed in two pieces joined medially along a low comb, fitted at the brow with a slightly down-turned pivoted peak struck at its left side with the maker's mark ID and supporting on its underside a triple-barred face-guard, at the nape with a one-piece neck-guard embossed to simulate three lames, and its sides with pendent cheek-pieces (replacements).


Exterior Marks: ID Possibly John Dawston, John Daw or John Dockray. John Dawston was a hammerman at the Royal Workshop at Greenwich. His presence is noted in the list of workmen there of 1608, 1610 and 1624/5. John Dockray, son of John, was apprenticed to Anthony Hatch from 19 June 1651. His father was also an armourer, and he died in 1650 when his will was approved.
