A 18-Bore Silver Mounted Queen Anne by Gandon, London, With two-stage cannon barrel, polygonal breech engraved with sprays of foliage in front of a stepped ramp, foliate engraved tang secured by a screw, signed polygonal action, ‘GANDON LONDON’, pan with raised edge fitting into the pan-cover, cock and steel border engraved, swelling moulded figured butt inlaid with fine silver wire scrollwork, carved around the barrel tang (old crack) separate steel trigger guard that covers the proof marks, with cast and chased mounts comprising scrolling foliate side plate, foliate escutcheon engraved with owner’s crest, and grotesque mask butt-cap, deeply struck London proof marks and makers mark, the pistol retaining traces of an almost plum finish overall.
