A Rare Flintlock Dragoon Pistol by Maddock for the Rossie Militia. With round barrel stamped with London proofs, plain tang, line engraved lock signed Maddock, in script, full-stocked in walnut with raised apron around the tang, brass military style mounts; comprising side-plate signed ‘ROBT OLIPHANT’ foliate engraved long-eared butt cap, escutcheon engraved with the crest of the Clan Oliphant and numbered ’21’, brass trigger guard with acanthus leaf finial and decorated with a flower head on the bow.  

Notes:

The pistol belongs to a group produced for Robert Oliphant, 4th of Rossie Hill. Robert Oliphant was born in 1718 and died 1795.
