A 54-Bore Percussion Pocket Pistol by Jas Wilkinson, London. With round turn-off barrel engraved with a geometric design at the muzzle and breech, border engraved steel action signed 'LONDON' on a scroll surrounded by foliage to the left and 'JAS WILKINSON' within a shield surrounded by a stand of arms to the right, fitted above with a sliding thumb-piece safety catch, chequered walnut butt. This pistol has been converted from flintlock to percussion at some point in its working life.

James 1 Foreman of Henry Nock, acted as his surety, 1800. Successor and son-in-law to Henry Nock, appointed Gunmaker-in-Ordinary to George III, 1805. Gunmaker, 17 Ludgate Hill, 1806-17. Became James & Son. Contractor to East India Company., 1805-39. At Brompton Square, Kensington. Died 1848 (aged 90). 

James & Son Gunmakers to His Majesty, the Hon East India Company & The King & Prince Royal of Persia, 17 Ludgate Hill, 1819-28; 27 Pall Mall, 1829-52; 4 St. James’s Square., 1839; 18 St. Mary Axe, 1850-2. Became Wilkinson & Son and later Wilkinson Sword.
