A Pair of 18-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols by Marsh, Mansfield, Circa 1830. With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each engraved ‘Mansfield’ along the top flat and white-metal line at the rear of the breech, foliage scroll engraved case-hardened tangs each with back-sight, signed border engraved locks and dolphin hammers en suite, engraved safety catches, detachable nipple-bolsters, figured half-stocks (fore-ends chipped in front of each lock) with chequered butts, with ovoid pommels encircled by an engraved silver band and centred on a foliage engraved silver escutcheon, blued trigger-guards (one with loss to finish) each with pineapple finial and engraved with foliage on the bow, vacant silver escutcheon, barrel-bolt escutcheons, and fore-end caps, blued triggers, original brass mounted ramrods, and much original finish. 


These pistols are very early examples of the percussion ignition system. 


John Marsh is recorded in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, between 1827 - 1834.
