Over and under double barrelled flintlock pistol. Made by Ketland & Co of London c1790.
Measured at 0.40 in (ie 73 bore).
Double-barrelled over & under. Clean bore. Round screw turn-off barrels with 8-pointed star serrations for a key at the muzzle. Octagonal breach marked on the bottom with Birmingham private proofs. Bottom & top barrel numbered "2†& "3†respectively to correspond with the numbering on the breach. No sights. The barrels screw on to the breach end.
Steel furniture: tang, trigger guard, lock, single ring-necked cock, frizen & trigger, rotating pan selector operated by tap on left frame.
Sliding top safety which locks the hammer & frizen at half cock.
Engraved decoration to: breach – linear edging. On side flats is floral decoration & in scrolling script within a 3 sided swag on the left flat "Ketland & Co†& on the right flat "Londonâ€; trigger guard- simple floral in centre with raised lined border; trigger strap with at the trigger end a linear frame; tail at rear of lock with linear edging & floral screw hole surround; linear edging to hammer, top jaw & frizen. The trigger with scroll back.
Flat sided walnut stock swelling to the butt, with checkering surrounding a diamond on its back.

Plain, good quality with crisp action & in good condition with traces of blueing on the barrels. Tap associated or slightly bent.
