A 16 Bore Flintlock Queen Anne Pistol by James Freeman, London Circa 1725. With two-stage cannon barrel, belled at the muzzle, polygonal border engraved breech stamped with London proofs and Foreigners mark, stepped tang, secured by a screw, border engraved breech signed beneath the pan, border engraved lock and pan, moulded figured butt, cast and chased silver mounts comprising pierced silver side-plate, two scrolling serpents either side of the tang, vacant foliate escutcheon and grotesque mask, iron trigger guard with foliate finial.

Notes:
James Paul Freeman was admitted to the freedom of the Gunmakers' Company on 5 July 1716, and in the same year took over the premises in St. Martins Lane previously occupied by Andrew Dolep to whom he had been turned over in 1705. He was elected Master in 1732 and died in 1736. Both he and his son James are noted for their breech-loading pistols.
