A 25-Bore Flintlock Silver-Mounted Turn-Off Pistol by Barbar, London, Circa 1745.
With three-stage cannon barrel, breech engraved 'LONDON', signed in capitals beneath the chiselled steel-spring and engraved with foliage behind, waisted border engraved tang decorated with foliage, border engraved action (cock replaced), trigger-guard engraved with a flower-head on the bow, swelling figured rounded butt carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, cast and chased silver-gilt mounts comprising pierced foliate side-plate involving a grotesque profile head and centred on a vacant cartouche, foliate escutcheon with a shell above and engraved with owner's crest, and grotesque-mask butt-cap, London proof marks and James Barbar's barrelsmith's mark.
