A Swept Hilt Rapier, 17th Century. With tapering double edged blade of flattened hexagonal section stamped ‘IHESVS’ on one side and ‘MARIA’ on the other and also with blade smith marks, rectangular ricasso struck on each side with blade-smiths mark and incised lines, hilt comprising bars of flattened oval section with recurving quillons swelling towards the tips, knuckle guard with scrolling bars and flattened tip en-suite with the quillons, double ring inner guard linking to the knuckle-guard, ovoid pommel with button finial and leather covered grip. The rapier retains museum tag.
