With slightly curved blade engraved ‘DE FRANCISCO RUIS’ and ‘EN TOLEDO’, iron hilt with up-turned shell guard, D-shaped knuckle guard with mushroom pommel, antler grip. In beautiful condition and with original tooled leather scabbard with steel mounts. 


A very similar hanger, probably made by the same hand, features in, ‘British Military Swords, Volume One: 1600 to 1660 The English Civil Wars and the Birth of the British Standing Army’. Page 158-161.
