A Superb Cased 6-Bore Percussion Rifle by John Manton & Son, Dover Street, No. 11596 for 1845. With browned twist sighted barrel signed, ‘John Manton & Son Dover Street London’ on the top flat, foliate engraved breech retaining some original colour, beautifully engraved tang featuring a stag above scrolling foliage, engraved pierced platinum plugs, beautifully engraved locks signed ‘JN MANTON & SON PATENT’ profusely engraved cock, highly figured walnut half-stock, chequered fore-end and grip, engraved steel mounts comprising numbered trigger guard, butt plate and rear ram-rod pipe en suite with the trigger guard, vacant silver escutcheon, silver barrel bolt-escutcheons, complete with original ramrod: in its original lined and fitted mahogany case, the corners with contemporary brass reinforces, the lid with flush-fitting brass handle on the outer face, engraved ‘TONG HALL LEEDS’ the inside with trade label, complete with all accessories including flask, wad-punch, mallet etc. 


11596 - Single Barrel 6 Bore Rifle - Owned by Holland & Holland, "This rifle has the same features as No. 11595 except that the barrel is multi-grooved. The serial number is on the wood of the stock, the scroll guard, lock plate, breech and barrel.
