A Cased Pair of 18-Bore Flintlock Greatcoat Pistols by Smith of London. With browned sighted barrels, signed ‘London’ in gothic script along the top flats, single platinum line with platinum touch-holes, profusely engraved tangs incorporating back-sights, stepped engraved locks retaining much original colour, fitted with sliding safety catches, the cocks decorated en suite, full-stocked in walnut cut with chequering at the grips, horn fore-end caps and with vacant oval escutcheons at the wrist, engraved steel mounts comprising trigger guards decorated with stands of arms and pineapple finials, engraved ramrod pipes with captive ramrods. The pistols in lovely condition retaining some original colour: in an associated period case, lined in blue baise with accessories including bullet mould, powder flask and cleaning rod, the exterior of the case fitted with a flush fitting carrying handle.
