A Scarce Pair of Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistols by Waters & Co. With belled brass two-stage barrels, fitted with sprung bayonets beneath, with release triggers mounted inside the trigger guards, a sprung locking catch mounted on right side beneath the muzzles, border engraved box-lock actions signed ‘Waters & Co’ and ‘Patent’ in script, thumb piece safety catches, trigger guard engraved with a diamond on the bow, figured bevelled rounded butts and side mounted horn-tipped ramrods. Tower private proof marks. The pistols are marked with serial numbers ’507’ and ‘508’. 


Waters & Co. 

John Waters [1767-1781] Made brass cannon barrel flintlock coach pistols and brass barrel, bell muzzle, flintlock pistols. John Waters patented a spring bayonet release. Shop at Birmingham. Name changed to John Waters & Co. 1781 to 1810.
