A 15-Bore Flintlock Queen Anne Pistol by Gandon of London, With two-stage cannon barrel, polygonal breech engraved with sprays of foliage, the top flat inscribed ‘LONDON’, foliate engraved tang secured by a screw, signed rounded action, pan with raised edge fitting into the pan-cover, cock and steel border engraved, swelling moulded figured butt, carved around the barrel tang, separate steel trigger guard that slides to lock the cock (unusual as it also locks the trigger - i have only ever seen one other example of this) with cast and chased mounts comprising stand of arms side plate, foliate escutcheon engraved with owner’s crest, and grotesque mask butt-cap with an unusual engraving to the fore-head of the mask depicting a wild boar, deeply struck London proof marks and makers mark.
