French 1st Empire Light Cavalry Officers Sabre, Early 19th Century
With blade typical of those produced at Solingen, no makers name but a good Solingen rose etched on the back edge of the blade. The blue and gilt is particularly fine with stands of arms and floral motifs on either side. Brass côte du melon hilt with a finely reeded and chequered hardwood grip. The hilt was originally silvered and traces of this are still in evidence.
The steel scabbard has two brass bands, again showing traces of silver and a brass throat.
A rare example of an Officer’s sabre from the 1st Empire that remains in very good condition.
