A Colt Third Model Dragoon Single Action Percussion Revolver with Near Matching Detachable Buttstock. With octagonal to round sighted barrel (replacement blade front sight) with folding leaf rear-sight, and hammer and notch rear-sight, plain walnut grips with cartouche (added to the right panel) with matching serial numbers on the rammer, barrel, cylinder arbour, frame, trigger guard and butt, replacement cylinder and wedge have been renumbered to match; complete with period stock serial numbered ’17455’ and ’17456’ (stocks for 3rd model Dragoons were nearly always numbered to a pair of pistols).

Notes:
The pistol has been expertly restored and re-finished by the previous owner. The butt- stock has been sanded and refinished to remove previous initials that had been carved into it and military cartouches have been added to match the grips of the pistol.

The pistol sold at Murphy’s Auction USA November 2022 – LOT 2235.
