A Superb Double 12-Bore Sporting Rifle by Rodda. Serial No. 2103, Mid 19th Century. With browned twist sighted barrels, sighted to 300 yards, signed along the top-flat, ‘R.B.RODDA & Co. LONDON & CALCUTTA’ case colour hardened breech with platinum plugs, profusely engraved tang, signed border engraved locks, profusely decorated with scrolling foliage, locks retaining much case-colour hardening, half-stocked in walnut, cut with deep chequering at the wrist and grip, engraved butt plate, trigger guard and ramrod pipes, brass tipped ramrod. In lovely condition overall, some areas of refinishing, A lovely crisp example.
Rodda
Gunmaker, 36 Piccadilly, 1846-7. Guns also marked Titchborne St. R.B. Rodda moved to Calcutta, but maintained a factory in Birmingham in the 1860s. Became Gunmaker to Viceroy & Governor General of India.
