An English ‘Mortuary’ Hilted Backsword. With narrow single edged blade, double edged towards the tip, cut with a short narrow fuller along the back-edge and one long fuller running almost the entire length, stamped at the forte with a blade smiths mark and engraved ‘AND’ for Andrea Farar, iron hilt comprising solid guard chiselled masks on each side amid symmetrical scrolling foliage, short scrolled wrist guard, knuckle guard flanked by two diagonal bars linked to the bifurcated side-bars and chiselled with foliage, the top of the knuckle-guard and side-bars screwed to a globular pommel, plain wooden grip, with a label attached that reads, ‘Battle of Edgehill, Roundhead Horsemans Sword.’
