A Flintlock Duelling Pistol by D.Egg, London. With sighted octagonal barrel, signed within a gold poincon ‘D.EGG LONDON’ on the top flat and fitted with rear-sight towards the breech, gold touch holed, foliate engraved tang and screw, signed bevelled lock with Eggs patent sliding safety, the tail of the lock decorated with stands of arms, full-stocked in walnut and cut with characteristic chequering at the grip, horn fore-end, engraved steel mounts comprising elaborately engraved butt carp, trigger guard with stands of arms on the bow and unusual ring device (I think possibly used to help steady the gun when aiming, a little like the spurred trigger guard?) and turned ramrod-rod pipes, with horn-tipped ramrod. In completely uncleaned condition, barrel retaining traces of original browning. (Small chips to the muzzle).
